Flooring Installation in Waterbury, Connecticut
LVP, hardwood, engineered, and laminate — on a flat, solid subfloor.
A floor is only as good as what's under it. Stringa Construction installs luxury vinyl plank, hardwood, engineered wood, and laminate across Waterbury and central Connecticut — and we level and repair the subfloor first, so your new floor doesn't click, bounce, or gap.
We've installed flooring in finished basements in Prospect and Madison, a kitchen in Terryville, and a bathroom in Watertown. We also refinish existing hardwood, which is often hiding under old carpet in area homes.
We're based in Waterbury (HIC.0667855) and work throughout Naugatuck, Cheshire, Watertown, Middlebury, Southbury, Wolcott, Prospect, Southington, and Woodbury.

| Refinishable | No | Many times | 1–2 times | No |
| Basements | Yes | No | Sometimes | Sometimes |

Subfloor prep is the step most installers rush. We screw down squeaky areas, replace soft or water-damaged sections, and grind or fill high and low spots so the floor is flat to the manufacturer's standard. In basements we test for moisture and use the right underlayment before any floor goes down.
Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and tile (LVT) are the most requested floors we install. Quality LVP has a thick wear layer, a rigid core, and is waterproof, so it works in kitchens, baths, basements, and busy family rooms. It does need a flat subfloor — dips show through.
Solid hardwood is the classic choice and can be sanded and refinished many times over its life. It doesn't belong in basements or anywhere it can get wet. Engineered hardwood has a real wood top layer over a stable plywood core, so it handles humidity changes better and can go in more places.
Laminate has a printed wood look under a hard wear layer. It's very scratch-resistant and affordable, but most laminate shouldn't be installed in wet areas.
Signs it's time for new floors
- ✓Worn, stained, or matted carpet
- ✓Cupping or gaps in hardwood
- ✓Squeaks, soft spots, or bouncy areas
- ✓Cracked tile or vinyl that's lifting
- ✓Different floors in every room you want to tie together
- ✓Hardwood under carpet you'd like to bring back
Refinish or replace?
Hardwood under carpet or with surface scratches can often be sanded and refinished. If boards are loose, badly cupped, or have been sanded too thin, replacement is the better choice.
For damaged LVP or laminate, single boards can sometimes be swapped. If the floor is worn across the room or the subfloor is the problem, it's time for new flooring.

Permits & licensing in CT
Flooring alone usually doesn't need a permit. On pre-1978 homes, older vinyl tile or mastic may contain asbestos — we test before disturbing it. Stringa Construction is a registered Connecticut home improvement contractor, HIC.0667855, and fully insured. Registration protects you: it's required by state law for home improvement work, and it gives homeowners access to the state's guaranty fund.

How to prepare your home
- ✓Empty closets and remove small furniture, rugs, and breakables from the rooms.
- ✓Let wood flooring sit in your home for a few days before installation so it adjusts.
- ✓Plan for doors that may need trimming to clear the new floor height.
- ✓Expect some noise and dust during removal of the old floor.
- ✓Think about transitions between rooms — continuous flooring often looks best.

Flooring Installation questions
How do I get a price for LVP flooring installation in CT?
Every home is different, so we don't publish prices. Reach out for a quick quote — call (203) 343-8838 or send your project details, and we'll visit, look at the existing conditions, and give you a free written fixed price.
Is LVP good for basements?
Yes. It's waterproof and handles the humidity changes in Connecticut basements. We check for moisture and level the concrete first.
Should I refinish my hardwood or replace it?
If the boards are solid and thick enough to sand, refinishing costs much less. We'll check during the estimate.
Do you move furniture?
We can move most furniture. Please empty closets and remove breakables.
Can you install flooring over my old floor?
Sometimes, but usually we remove it to fix squeaks and level the subfloor. That's what makes the new floor last.
Do you install flooring in Southbury and Cheshire?
Yes. We install flooring across all of our core towns, including Southbury, Cheshire, Naugatuck, and Middlebury.
Do you remove and dispose of my old flooring?
Yes. Removing old carpet, pad, tile, or wood and hauling it away is part of the job, and we vacuum the subfloor before installation.
How long does it take to install LVP in a house?
A single room usually takes a day or two. A full main floor often takes three to seven days, including removing old floors and leveling.
Can you install hardwood on stairs?
Yes. We install new treads and risers or matching stair nosing so the stairs flow with the new floors.
