Roof Replacement in Waterbury, Connecticut

Full tear-off roofs built for Connecticut ice, wind, and snow.

A roof is the one part of your house you can't afford to get wrong. Stringa Construction replaces roofs across Waterbury and central Connecticut with full tear-offs down to the roof deck, new ice & water shield, new flashing, and ventilation that actually works — not a new layer of shingles over old problems.

We're a registered Connecticut home improvement contractor (HIC.0667855) based at 64 Ellen St in Waterbury. Most of our roofing work is within about 20 minutes of the office: Naugatuck, Cheshire, Watertown, Middlebury, Southbury, Wolcott, Prospect, Southington, and Woodbury.

Every roof starts with an inspection, photos, and a written fixed scope. If we find rotted decking during tear-off, you already know the per-sheet price, because it's in the contract.

— Scope

What's included

  • Full tear-off

We remove every layer down to the wood deck. That's the only way to see and fix soft spots.

  • Deck inspection & repair

Rotted or delaminated plywood is replaced sheet by sheet at a price agreed in writing before we start.

  • Ice & water shield

Self-sealing membrane at the eaves, in every valley, and around chimneys and skylights — the main defense against Connecticut ice dams.

  • Underlayment & drip edge

Synthetic underlayment over the full deck and metal drip edge at every edge so water lands in the gutter, not behind the fascia.

  • New flashing

Step flashing at walls, new pipe boots, and chimney flashing replaced or rebuilt rather than reused.

  • Ventilation

Ridge vent and soffit intake balanced so the attic stays cold in winter and dry in summer. Poor ventilation shortens roof life and causes ice dams.

  • Standing-seam metal

Standing-seam metal roofs with hidden fasteners, panels formed to length, and snow guards where needed.

  • Roof repair

Not every roof needs replacing. Flashing leaks, wind-damaged shingles, and failed pipe boots can often be repaired for a fraction of the cost.

  • Clean-up

Tarps over landscaping, a dumpster on site, and a magnetic sweep for nails at the end of every day.

Shingles vs. metal roofing

Most Connecticut homes are roofed in architectural asphalt shingles. Metal costs more up front but lasts longer. Here's how they compare.

Low-slope areasNot recommendedStanding seam works on lower pitches

Architectural shingles are the right choice for most Connecticut homes. They're thicker than the old three-tab shingles, hold up better in wind, and give the roof a dimensional look. We install major-brand shingle systems with matching starter, hip, and ridge products so the whole roof works together.

We also install standing-seam metal roofs. Standing seam hides its fasteners under raised seams, so there are no exposed screws to loosen over time. It sheds snow quickly, which is why we add snow guards above doors, walkways, and lower roofs. Exposed-fastener metal is a lower-cost option that works well on porches, sheds, and barns.

On low-slope sections — common over porches and additions — shingles don't drain well. Those areas often get a membrane or metal instead, tied into the main roof with proper flashing.

— Checklist

Signs you need a new roof

  • ✓The roof is 20–25+ years old, or you don't know its age
  • ✓Shingles are curling, cracked, or missing after storms
  • ✓Granules collecting in gutters or at downspouts
  • ✓Ice dams and water stains on ceilings after a thaw
  • ✓Daylight or damp wood visible from the attic
  • ✓A soft or sagging feel or look to the roof deck
  • ✓Moss or dark streaks that keep coming back on shaded slopes
— Honest advice

Repair or replace?

If the roof is under about 15 years old and the problem is one area — a chimney, a pipe boot, a wall intersection — repair is usually the right call, and we'll tell you so.

If shingles are brittle across the roof, there are multiple layers, or the leaks are in several places, repairs become money spent on a roof that's already done. At that point a replacement is the better value.

— Process

Our process & timeline

Most single-family roofs are done in 1–3 working days once material is delivered. Larger or steeper roofs, metal, or heavy deck repair can add a few days. Scheduling is usually 2–6 weeks out depending on season.
  1. Step 01

    Inspection

We walk the roof (or use photos when it isn't safe), check the attic, and measure.

  2. Step 02

    Written scope

You get a fixed price with materials, colors, and the deck-repair rate spelled out.

  3. Step 03

    Permit

We pull the building permit under our HIC registration.

  4. Step 04

    Install

Tear-off, repairs, membranes, shingles or metal, flashing, and vents. Most homes take 1–3 days.

  5. Step 05

    Close-out

Final clean-up and walkthrough, plus inspection and permit close-out where your town requires it.

Permits & licensing in CT

Connecticut towns require a building permit for roof replacement. We pull it under our registration, and close it out after the job. Stringa Construction is a registered Connecticut home improvement contractor, HIC.0667855, and fully insured. Registration protects you: it's required by state law for home improvement work, and it gives homeowners access to the state's guaranty fund.

— Before we start

How to prepare your home

  • ✓Move cars out of the driveway and garage the night before — debris and dumpsters need the space.
  • ✓Take down wall hangings on top-floor walls; hammering can shake them loose.
  • ✓Cover items stored in the attic with sheets to catch dust that falls through the deck.
  • ✓Let us know about pets, sprinkler heads, and plants near the house so we can protect them.
  • ✓Expect noise during work hours for the 1–3 days we're on the roof.
— FAQ

Roof Replacement questions

How do I get a price for roof replacement in Waterbury, CT?

Every home is different, so we don't publish prices. Reach out for a quick quote — call (203) 343-8838 or send your project details, and we'll visit, look at the existing conditions, and give you a free written fixed price.

Can you put new shingles over my old roof?

We don't recommend it. A tear-off lets us fix rotted decking, install ice & water shield, and replace flashing. Overlays hide problems, add weight, and can shorten the life of the new roof.

How long does a roof replacement take?

Usually 1–3 working days for a typical single-family home. We won't open a roof we can't dry in the same day.

Do I need to be home during the work?

No. We need access to an outlet and the driveway, and we'll walk the finished job with you at the end.

Do you install metal roofing?

Yes, on whole houses and on sections like porches and low-slope areas where metal performs better than shingles.

Can you help with storm damage and insurance?

We can inspect, document damage with photos, and provide a detailed written scope you can give your insurance company. Your claim is between you and your insurer.

Do you replace gutters at the same time?

We can. If gutters are damaged or poorly pitched, replacing them with the roof is the cleanest time to do it, since the drip edge is already open.

Do you install standing-seam metal roofs?

Yes. We install standing-seam metal roofs on whole houses and on sections like porches and low-slope roofs, including snow guards where sliding snow could be a problem.

What happens if it rains during my roof replacement?

We only open as much roof as we can dry in the same day, and we watch the forecast closely. If weather moves in, exposed areas are covered with underlayment and tarps before we leave.
